Vacations are something that can totally renew your spirit and bring about a fresh outlook. I know I yearn for the quiet, warm beach air on my skin, but I also know that I may be waiting a while for that day to come once again. Instead of wallowing in sadness, there is a way to bring that relaxing, clam vibe into your own home with a few simple tricks. Here are 11 ways to relive vacation and add spa decor to your home.
Add a few pieces of furniture to your outdoor space
Vacations are all about going outside. Even if you have only a small space outdoors, just adding one of these items will bring about that romantic vacation feel.
Add A Hammock or Some Colorful Outdoor Furniture
On vacation, it seems like there is always a nice comfy place outdoors for you to relax and gather your thoughts. I remember on one of the first vacations my husband and I took, we found a seduced hammock hidden on a hillside just over looking the beautiful hot spring we were visiting. (this made for amazing foot/hammock pictures)
Outdoor furniture can play a big part in creating that outdoors-y vacation vibe. Adding a hammock, an outdoor swing or (my new favorite) some Raton chair swings will make a huge difference in creating that resort like feel. A nice brightly colored outdoor carpet is also another item that can completely change the look of your yard.
Add some Mood lighting
An easy way to add resort decor to your outdoor space is by adding mood lighting. What do you think of when you think of fire pits? How about string lights? I would bet that you think of parties and fun summer nights. Adding a fire pit (or a little table torch) string lights and solar lights make a huge difference in creating a vacation feel for your yard. (Just imagine lights, warm air and crickets chirping.)
Adding some of the elements is another way to make your outdoor space feel more like a beach. I just love the look of fire and the sound of trickling water together. Tiki torches and small water features are another calming thing you could add to create a peaceful mood and resort feeling to your home.
Plants are a Game changer
Plants do some amazing things for your space! Whether you are contemplating indoors or outdoor decorating, be sure to add plenty of these guys everywhere! If you are going for a tropical vacation feel, try some Banana trees, Elephant Ears or Birds of Paradise. Anything big and green and leafy will do wonders to make you feel like you are on your dream getaway!
If you are sitting there saying that you don’t have a green thumb, maybe try some succulents or air plants that are a little harder to kill. Any little pops of green will make a huge difference in your mood (even if they are plastic).
Adding a Resort Feeling to your Indoor Space
Get rid of the clutter!
I have to put this one here for myself as I am constantly tripping over kids toys, pillows and even furniture! Every once in a while, go through your space and clear it out. Get rid of anything and everything that you don’t use or that doesn’t make you happy. Resorts feel amazing partly because they are empty of all the “baggage” we carry around with us everyday.
Pick out some brightly colored textiles
By simple adding some brightly colored pillows or pops of color to an otherwise neutral room, you will have an instant “fun” feeling come over you! What you choose will depend on what feeling you are going for. Deep blues can be calming like the ocean, crisp patterns could inspire you and bright colors can energize you! Pick something that makes you happy and you can’t go wrong!
Blankets and throws are another thing that can cozy up a space without making it look cluttered. Go for different soft textures and make sure they are also super comfortable!
Add some Romantic Window Treatments
There is nothing better than long draping curtains blowing in the breeze. It may seem silly but a light and airy window treatment may be just the thing you need to feel like you are away at a luxury resort.
There are not many times that you will hear me say that I like the breeze. This is one exception to my rule.
Add some bright and fluffy bedding
Adding spa decor to your home will be easy when you invest in crisp clean bedding. Hotels always seem to have that bright white crisp feel to them. Adding your own white (or lighter colored) linens will make the room seem bigger and cleaner.
Also make sure to add some soft and cozy throws and fluffy comfortable pillows to really complete the resort decor feel.
Add Art to your Space
Art can take you away to a far away place from the comfort of your couch. Choose large pieces of art that speak to you. I like adding bright colors and textures.
Art is definitely a personal choice. For this, I say pick out what you like and don’t try to be trendy. You will find that if you pick the right art, you can stare at it all day! Check out these art buying tips!
Add a Coffee or Hot Chocolate Bar
A lot of times hotels will have a little space both in your room and in the lobby where you can prepare the perfect cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate. I know I always enjoy the relaxing feeling I get when I make myself a cup and get to sit back and enjoy the moment.
Some things you could put in your space are motivational mugs, small snacks, condiments and a small seasonal sign. Tired trays work great for cute storage as well!
Add Spa Decor for the Home to your Bathroom
One of the best things about a relaxing get away is the pampering your body and soul receive. By de-cluttering, cleaning and adding some soothing decor, you will feel like you are on a vacation at anytime of year.
Crisp whites, calming greens and relaxing blues are some great choices for the bathroom.
Adding spa products, bath salts and candles are another great way to make it a point to take time out for yourself.
A nice soft bathrobe, some slippers and a bathtub tray are a few more great additions to the room. While these may not be considered home decorating items, I find that having them will go a long way in your self-care and the relaxing vibe of the room.
Add your other senses to the mix
One of the best (and unseen) ways to create resort decor for your home is by including all of your senses. Have you ever noticed that vacation has a smell? I have.
Try to copy the scents you remember from your favorite trips. (I love coconut everything – but it not for everyone!) Add candles or essential oils to warm up your space.
As for sounds, place a peaceful tabletop waterfall or a wind-chime on a nearby table. You will be amazed at how much these little things do to create that vacation vibe!
