Create an Easy Vintage Style Candle Wreath

I love wreaths.  Every year I find myself making them just for fun and then I give them away as presents. This year, I have simplified my wreath making and am going with a less conventional ways of making wreaths.  While I would like to say that I am getting away with having less glitter in my living room, this is sadly not the case. This lovely vintage style candle wreath has a little sparkle but is still really simple and easy to recreate.

This year, the dollar store had solar-powered light up candles.  I just knew I had to grab a bunch for my Christmas decorating, but I was not sure exactly where to start.  After having these in the garage for a while, I finally decided that these would look great on a wreath or Christmas tree, much like how they were in the good old days.

Here is what you will need to make a vintage style candle wreath:

A plain wreath with nothing on it

Some ribbon

Green floral wire

Some LED solar candle lights

A few pieces of floral accents

spray paint

Glitter blast

How to Make the Wreath:

What I love about this is how easy and quick it was to bring a whole new look to a plain wreath.  I spruced up my “plain” wreath with a spray down of gold glitter blast, because who doesn’t love a little glitter (or a lot)?

Next, you will want to wrap your ribbon around the wreath. Make sure to space everything out evenly and to keep it loose so that the branches keep their full form.

Once you have the ribbon wrapped around the wreath, you could tie it in a bow or you can secure the ribbon behind the wreath by tying it, using floral wire.

Now it is time to add the candles. If you get the solar candles from the Dollar Tree, they are a little plain to start out with, so I painted mine.  I used a hunter green color. (make sure not to paint the solar panels (I disassembled mine for easier painting) You may choose whatever color goes with the look you are going for. I also added a little Glitter blast gold spray  to the candles and finished the look by placing big gold flecks on top of the wet paint that had fallen off of my dollar store ribbon.

Once the candles were dry, I used green floral wire to tie them to my wreath.  Make sure the solar panels can still “see” the light, while hiding the bottom piece as much as you can.  The ribbon came in very handy for tucking in the solar panels and hiding them.

Once everything is where you want it and secure, add your finishing touches.  You can go as crazy as you would like. I added three gold glittery flowers that went with my green and gold color scheme, but your imagination is the limit.  You could use pine cones, birds, bells, flowers… the possibilities are endless!
