Halloween is here again! These heads in a jar are a great Halloween display that will get people talking. I can’t tell you how many compliments I got on these and the best part was that they only took a few minutes to set up! If you suddenly have a last-minute Halloween party to throw, these are a must!Â

Much like in Futurama, having a head in a jar is creepy and a bit scary. These life-like zombies and wrinkly faces are nothing more than cheap rubber masks inserted into glass jars. I found these at Goodwill, but here are some similar ones that will work well when emerged in water:
After you find the mask that you want to use, you will need to find some jars that are big enough to hold the masks, along with water along the sides. There are lots of water dispensers on sale at this time of year, as they are super trendy in the summer and tend to go on sale in the cooler months. Here is one that should work for a medium-sized full head mask. You could also search clear cookie jars to find a few without dispensers.
Now that you have the main ingredients, you will simply put the masks in the jars and begin filling the jars up with water. While the water is pouring in, shape the masks the way you want them and make sure the water expands them out and doesn’t fold them on top of themselves.
Now that they are full of water, add your choice of food coloring to give them an extra eerie effect. I also read that you can add hair gel to the water mixture to give it extra texture, but I didn’t bother with this, so I couldn’t tell you if it works.
As an alternative, You can print out a picture of your own head (or someone else’s you know) cut it out and laminate it so it has a seal. Then do the same thing as the masks (insert it into the jar and fill with water) This will give you a familiar face to look at on your spooky Halloween table!
Another option is to fill the jars with tonic water and place a backlight behind them so they glow!

These jars got some many compliments! They probably got even more compliments than the other decorations that took hours to put up! I would definitely recommend these as a fun Halloween decoration!
