Fall is quickly turning to winter here in Colorado. November is only a few days away and it is getting darker and colder. With all of the leaves falling down and Thanksgiving just around the corner, I wanted to introduce a really easy and really affordable fall decoration, made completely with dollar store items. The dollar store fall centerpiece.
This bowl was super cute as came straight from the dollar store, but perhaps a little too shiny and plasticky looking for my taste. I decided to make over this bowl with a fresh coat of paint and some decorative balls for an easy DIY fall accent.
Here is what you will need to make the Dollar Store fall centerpiece as well as the decorative balls:
Leaf shaped bowl (Dollar Store)
Acrylic paint in various fall colors (brown, maroon, tan, gold)
Styrofoam balls (Dollar Store)
Sparkly fall colored ribbon (Dollar Store)
Pinecones or dried fall flowers
How to make the leaf bowl:
To do this, I painted the bottom and top of the bowl with brown acrylic paint. After everything was dry, I added some green and copper streaks of paint to the bottom of the bowl. This step is optional, but gives the bowl some added depth.
I then added tan accent streaks to the inside of the bowl just to give it a little highlight. Once this dries and you are happy with the look, you are good to go! (You could also add crackle paint or a stencil for even more interest your imagination is the limit!)
How to make the Decorative Balls:
For the decorative balls, I first painted the balls using acrylic paint. Tan, gold and maroon were the colors of choice to get the look of fall. I allowed these to dry and then used Mod Podge to adhere ribbon around the balls. I used the Mod Podge liberally on both the tops and bottoms of the ribbon so everything adhered and stuck to the bumpy texture of the ball.
Once everything was dry, I added the balls, some leaves and some dried floral pieces to the bowl for a cute and easy fall decoration!
