The Kentucky Derby is such a fun day! Not only is it a day to watch horses, (which I love) it is also so much fun to look at the woman in the audience with their big gorgeous styled hats! Every year, I say I am going to make one, and finally this year I did! (the hardest part of this for me was actually doing it)
This hat took about 15 minutes to assemble and it was so much fun to create my own stylish Derby hat!
Here is what you will need to make your Derby Hat:
A plain rimmed hat (check the thrift stores, I got mine for $1)
Here is how I made my Kentucky Derby hat:
First, decide on a look you would like. It is a good idea to hop on Pinterest and browse their ideas! Once you decide on a look you would like, go out and buy the pieces you will need to create it.
I decided to go with a peach and gold theme and I definitely wanted feathers!
Wrap ribbon around the upper brim of the hat and hot glue it into place.
Once the ribbon is on, glue your main flower on to the ribbon.
Next, add the feathers and any other big accents you have.
To finish off the hat, glue on any small accents you have. I added some small pink flowers around the big one.And that is it! Now you have an amazingly stylish hat that nobody else will have and you made it yourself for a fraction of the cost! DIYing it is so much fun! I would love to see your hat pictures on our Facebook page! And if you liked this, here is a DIY Rainbow Brite Halloween costume you could try (I just aged myself)!

Oh my gosh, what a great idea! I have never thought of making my own hat and sweat every year finding a fabulous one. So many helpful tips! – Stephanie | http://www.theborrowedbabes.com
Thanks Stephanie! It literally took 15 minutes to put together once I had the supplies! So easy and so much fun! ?
I so love hats! Beautiful ones… With ribbons like on illustrations in old storybooks. Such a pity people don’t really wear them anymore. Sometimes when I travel I imagine places how they looked in the past. When there were no cars or only the beautiful ones… And girls with light-coloured dresses and hats and flowers…

You bring about such a pretty picture! It would be so neat if people still dressed up! ?
