This is the second time we have gone to the Boo at the Zoo around Halloween. I will start by saying it is really fun for the younger kids who have shorter attention spans and tend to get tired of walking easily. The combination of dressing up, cool animals and candy is something that can not be found elsewhere.

Boo at the Zoo is basically a “treat street” type of event where different vendors hand out candy to the kids as they trick or treat. While some vendors will try to corner you and sell you on something (beware of the solar people) most are just having fun and enjoying the day. Some even have free samples! (How I have come to love Noosa yogurt ?)
This year, my family dressed up as Mario characters. We had Mario, Luigi, Wario and I was Princess Peach. Everyone really loved the Wario costume and I was probably stopped like 5 times because people thought I was a Disney princess here to take pictures with kids. (Oops too poofy of a dress I guess.) I like to make my own versions of costumes vs. buying pre-made ones.) Here is how I made this one.
Overall, the kids had a lot of fun. They will always remember the hippo, who was playing with his gigantic ball and that my youngest dropped his shoe in the bear cage. (Yep, true story.) While parking is horrible and it seems insanely busy upon arrival, once you get in the Zoo, it is not too bad. I would definitely recommend going to this event as there is something for everyone; a small train ride, carousel, costumes, food, candy and of course all of the neat animals!
